Provocative Increment in Workforce Diminution: SiFive, Architect of RISC-V Chips, Initiates 20% Resignation Phenomenon

SiFive, the chip design company behind the RISC-V instruction set, has laid off 20% of its workforce, which previously consisted of over 500 employees. Despite recently unveiling two new CPU models, the company assures that it still has sufficient funding.

The RISC-V instruction set allows anyone to develop chips that are compatible with the instruction set freely. However, there are several manufacturers of the green printed chips that follow these instructions, which could either be sold or part of open-source projects. The popularity of the RISC-V architecture has been steadily increasing, especially in the IoT chip group, where it is widely used. However, high-performance chips using this architecture are still limited to certain applications.

Currently, SiFive is in fundraising mode and its latest round was last year, raising $175 million in total across six rounds, totaling $365.56 million in investments.

TLDR: SiFive, the chip design company, has laid off 20% of its staff but assures that it has enough funding. The RISC-V instruction set is popular, especially in the IoT chip group, but high-performance chips using this architecture are limited to specific applications. SiFive has raised a total of $365.56 million in funding.
