Introducing the Legion, Legion Pro, and LOQ Gaming Notebooks by Lenovo: Revolutionizing Energy Management with AI-Powered Chipsets in 2024!

Lenovo unveiled their latest gaming laptops at the CES 2024 event held last week. The Legion and LOQ series for the year 2024 come with the added highlight of having AI chips integrated into every sub-model.

In 2023, Lenovo started incorporating their self-developed AI chips into the Legion Pro models to optimize power consumption during gameplay. The AI chips for the 2023 models included the LA2-Q (Legion Pro 7/7i) and LA1 (Legion Pro 5/5i).

However, in 2024, a significant change occurred as Lenovo expanded the AI chips to be included in all gaming notebook models, including the Legion (non-Pro) and LOQ lines. The flagship AI chip for 2024, called LA3-P, is utilized in the top-tier Legion 9i (Gen 9) model, providing a total of 5 features.

These features include Scenario Detection, which adjusts CPU and GPU power based on usage behavior at that particular moment. Smart FPS monitors hardware component power usage and frame rate (FPS) on the screen, allowing for optimizations to achieve higher frame rates. Lighting Audio Sync synchronizes RGB lighting with in-game audio to enhance the gaming experience. Legion Aurora Sync synchronizes screen color with keyboard RGB lighting. Lastly, Smart Control enables gamers to switch between pre-set power profiles, with AI assistance through the Lenovo Vantage app.

Moving on to the lower models, the Legion 7i (Gen 9) utilizes the AI chip LA3 and includes the features of Scenario Detection, Smart FPS increases, and Smart Control. On the other hand, the Legion 5i (Gen 9) continues to use the previous year’s AI chip, LA1, and only supports the Smart Control feature.

In addition to the AI chips, the new feature in the Legion 7i/5i models is the Coldfront: Hyper heat dissipation system, developed jointly by Lenovo and Intel. This redesigned system allows the hot air to flow out of the laptop without mixing with the cool air drawn in. As a result, the CPUs can operate at higher power levels of 175W (for the thinner 7i model) and 190W (5i model).

Now, let’s take a look at the specs of the Legion models for the year 2024 (all with a 16″ screen):

– Legion 9i: Maximum Core i9-14900HX CPU, maximum GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, up to 64GB RAM, 99.99WHr battery, Wi-Fi 7, starting at $4,399.
– Legion 7i: Maximum Core i9-14900HX CPU, maximum GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, up to 32GB RAM, 99.99WHr battery, Wi-Fi 7, starting at $2,099.
– Legion 5i: Maximum Core i9-14900HX CPU, maximum GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, up to 32GB RAM, 80WHr battery, Wi-Fi 6E, starting at $1,399.

Moving on to the Legion Pro series (16″, Gen 9), which focuses on higher performance compared to the year 2024 version. These laptops feature the Coldfront: Vapor heat dissipation system, allowing the TDP of the GPUs to reach 250W (Legion Pro 7i/RTX 4090) and 215W (Legion Pro 5i/RTX 4070).

The AI chip used in these models is the older version from the previous year. The Legion Pro 7i utilizes both the LA2-Q and LA1 chips together, while the Legion Pro 5i uses only the LA1 chip. Other specs include a maximum Core 14th Gen i9-14900HX CPU, up to 32GB 5600MHz DDR5 RAM, and a maximum 16″ PureSight WQXGA 16:10 IPS display.

The starting prices for the Legion Pro series are $2,699 for the Legion Pro 7i and $1,499 for the Legion Pro 5i.

Lastly, we have the LOQ brand, offering budget-friendly gaming laptops. The LOQ series was introduced in the 15″ model, with two display options: 165Hz WQHD (1440p) 5ms and 144Hz FHD. These laptops come with 16GB RAM, a maximum 1TB storage, and the lower LA1 AI chip.

The starting price for the LOQ series is $749, with a choice of 4 CPU and GPU combinations:

– Lenovo LOQ 15IRX9: Maximum Core i7-14700HX CPU + maximum GeForce RTX 4060 GPU.
– Lenovo LOQ 15IAX9I: Maximum Core i5-12450HX CPU + maximum Intel Arc A530M GPU.
– Lenovo LOQ 15IAX9: Maximum Core i5-12450HX CPU + maximum GeForce RTX 4050 GPU.
– Lenovo LOQ 15AHP9: Maximum Ryzen 7 8845HS CPU + maximum GeForce RTX 4060 GPU.

In conclusion, Lenovo’s latest gaming laptops introduced at CES 2024 showcased their advancements in AI integration, heat dissipation, and performance enhancements, catering to different price points and needs.

TLDR: Lenovo unveiled their 2024 gaming laptop lineup at CES 2024, featuring AI chips integrated into every model. The Legion series includes the flagship Legion 9i with a Core i9-14900HX CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, and up to 64GB RAM. The Legion Pro models highlight enhanced performance and feature the Coldfront: Vapor heat dissipation system. The budget-friendly LOQ series offers different CPU and GPU combinations. Overall, Lenovo’s 2024 gaming laptops showcase advancements in AI technology and performance optimization.
