TSMC has announced that the opening of its second chip factory in Arizona will be delayed from the originally planned date in 2026 to either 2027 or 2028, similar to the postponement of its first factory opening from 2024 to 2025.

Additionally, TSMC mentioned that the second factory, originally intended for advanced 3-nanometer chip production, may instead focus on producing larger-sized chips.

Mark Liu, Chairman of TSMC, stated that the decision regarding the direction of the second factory will depend on market demand and the amount of government assistance and support provided by the United States.

TLDR: TSMC has postponed the opening of its second chip factory in Arizona to either 2027 or 2028, and there is a possibility of producing larger-sized chips instead of the originally planned advanced 3-nanometer chips. The decision will be based on market demand and government support.
