30% of Workforce at Sledgehammer Games, Studio Behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Reportedly Let Go in Shakeup

According to recent updates, Microsoft has laid off around 1,900 employees in the gaming industry, and the studio of Activision Blizzard is taking a heavy hit. Sledgehammer Games, the developer behind the latest Call of Duty installment, Modern Warfare III, has experienced a 30% layoff (note that these numbers are unofficial). Meanwhile, Toys for Bob, the studio responsible for the Crash Bandicoot series, which was later shifted to work on Call of Duty, has seen a 40% reduction in staff (again, these figures are not official).

Speculations from Eurogamer suggest that Sledgehammer Games may have laid off approximately 150-300 employees, while Toys for Bob might have let go of around 35 people. However, these numbers are not confirmed.

Blizzard, on the other hand, has also faced significant lay-offs, especially within the development team of their new game, code-named Odyssey, which has been entirely scrapped. In addition, key executives and co-founders of the studio have simultaneously announced their departures.

TLDR: Microsoft’s recent lay-offs in the gaming industry have had a significant impact on Activision Blizzard and its studios Sledgehammer Games and Toys for Bob. Speculations suggest that the numbers of employees laid off are estimated to be around 150-300 for Sledgehammer Games and approximately 35 for Toys for Bob. Blizzard has also experienced extensive lay-offs, including the cancellation of their new game Odyssey and the departure of key executives.
