Selling a Whopping 10 Million Apple Shares, Warren Buffett’s Move Shakes Stock Market, Representing a Mere 1% of the Vast Portfolio

Berkshire Hathaway, the renowned investment company owned by billionaire investor Warren Buffett, has reported its holdings of securities as of December 2023. One interesting highlight is that Buffett has sold 10 million shares of Apple during the fourth quarter of 2023, which equates to approximately 1.1% of the total Apple shares held by Berkshire (not including all Apple shares). Nevertheless, Buffett still retains 905.56 million shares of Apple.

Buffett began purchasing Apple shares in 2016 and has been accumulating them steadily ever since. As a result, Berkshire has become one of the major shareholders of Apple, and Apple itself represents a significant portion of Berkshire’s investment portfolio, accounting for approximately one-fifth of its total value, which currently stands at around $1.6 trillion. The sale of these 10 million shares may not hold much significance from Buffett’s perspective, as he has consistently praised Apple as the best company he has ever invested in.

In addition to the Apple sale, Berkshire Hathaway has also divested from HP, a position it started investing in 2022. On the other hand, it has made additional purchases of shares in Chevron, Occidental Petroleum, and SiriusXM.

TLDR: Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffett’s investment company, has sold 10 million shares of Apple but still retains over 900 million shares. Apple remains a significant part of its investment portfolio. The company has also made sales and purchases of other stocks, including HP, Chevron, Occidental Petroleum, and SiriusXM.
