Embracer Unloads Debt: Sells Saber Studio Group, Returns to Original Founders for $247 Million

After much speculation, Embracer Group, a giant game company from Sweden facing financial difficulties, has announced the sale of the game studio group Saber Interactive for $247 million.

The buyer of Saber Interactive is no stranger as it is Matthew Karch, the founder of Saber Interactive, who sold the company to Embracer in 2020 and has now bought it back using his other company, Beacon Interactive, as the purchaser.

Embracer has a total of 12 operative groups, each containing numerous game studios. In the case of Saber Interactive, they hold several studios under their umbrella, including New World Interactive, Nimble Giant, Slipgate, and 3D Realms.

In this transaction, Embracer still retains some studios within the Saber group and has not sold them all, including prominent studios like 4A Games (Metro series), Aspyr, Beamdog, and Demiurge.

Matthew Karch expressed his pride in being part of Embracer for the past 4 years but believes that it is the best decision for both parties to continue their business operations. He will continue to hold shares in Embracer, and Saber will maintain its relationship with Embracer for future projects as before.
