Moore’s Law Is Dead has reported on alleged information regarding the upcoming release of the PS5 Pro, codenamed Trinity, set to launch in late 2024.
The overall performance is claimed to be at 33.5 Terraflops, with an upgraded GPU, faster RAM, and 45% faster image rendering compared to the standard PS5. The new ray tracing architecture boasts a significant increase in performance, averaging 2-3 times higher and up to 4 times maximum.
A new feature called PSSR, or PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling, utilizes machine learning techniques to enhance image scaling, supporting resolutions of up to 4K initially and 8K in the future. The PS5 Pro is also equipped with AI processing acceleration, achieving a performance of 300 TOPS (8-bit) or 67 TFLOPS (16-bit).
Although the numbers on paper may seem promising, Moore’s Law Is Dead points out that the GPU of the PS5 is based on the RDNA 2 architecture, suggesting that the PS5 Pro’s GPU could potentially be based on the yet-to-be-released RDNA 4 architecture.
Insider Gaming has corroborated the specs, citing leaked documents from Sony distributed to game developers. The hardware devkit was reportedly delivered to studios within Sony’s umbrella in September 2023 and to external studios in January 2024. However, there is a possibility that the launch may be delayed if Sony’s own games are not ready for the release.
TLDR: Moore’s Law Is Dead reports on alleged specs of the upcoming PS5 Pro, codenamed Trinity, with improved performance, ray tracing, AI processing, and potential delays in the late 2024 launch. Insider Gaming confirms the leaked specs.
