Transformation of Licenses: Redis Shifts from LGPL to SSPL, Pressuring Cloud Service Providers.

Redis has announced a shift in project licenses, moving from the previous BSD license to the SSPL, similar to MongoDB and Elasticsearch. The SSPL, designed by MongoDB, requires that cloud service providers disclose related source code when providing cloud services. This means that in practice, no cloud service provider can use this code without purchasing a business license.

Starting from Redis 7.4, cloud service providers must make agreements with Redis Company in advance. Redis acknowledges that this change in licensing will no longer make Redis an open-source project, but they are trying to strike a balance between business and openness for usability.

TLDR: Redis is switching from a BSD license to SSPL, requiring cloud service providers to disclose related source code and obtain a business license starting from Redis 7.4.
