Marissa Mayer, the former CEO of Yahoo and Google executive who is now the founder of the startup called Sunshine, introduced an app 6 years ago with the main app being a contact management app named Sunshine, which is the same name as the company. Recently, Mayer launched a new app that may bring back some nostalgia.
This app is called Shine by Sunshine and is currently only available on iOS. The functionality of the app is to quickly upload and share photos with friends or groups, creating albums that specify time and location to address the pain point of photos from events or group gatherings often being difficult to share or incomplete, Shine steps in to solve this issue.
Shine’s feature includes using AI to manage images, with AI selecting the best photos for sharing. There is also a Magic mode where the AI scans the phone’s images and selects and designs an album name, saving users the trouble of choosing images themselves. Once images are uploaded, they can be shared in various ways including code input, link sharing, or QR codes.
There was a minor controversy when Mayer shared this app on X and some people commented that the app’s interface looked outdated and not up to modern design standards. Mayer responded by sharing a link to job openings for UI/UX designers.
