Revealed: Blizzard Unlocks the Potential for a New Installment in the Warcraft Cinematic Universe, Yet Prefers to Collaborate Instead.

John Hight, the Vice President and General Manager of the Warcraft franchise, sat down for an interview with IGN at the recent GDC event. He expressed his desire to see a new Warcraft movie, but Blizzard is hesitant to take on another film project after the mixed reception of the previous one. The company wants to focus on creating games, which they excel at, rather than venturing into other entertainment industries.

Hight elaborated that if they were to come across a filmmaker who truly understands Warcraft and has innovative ideas to share, someone who specializes in filmmaking in a way Blizzard does not, he would be open to the possibility. He wants Warcraft to grow, but not at a pace where it risks alienating existing fans.

The Warcraft movie released in 2016 received a mixed reception but managed to earn $473 million worldwide. Directed by Duncan Jones and co-produced by Legendary Pictures, Blizzard Entertainment, and Atlas Entertainment, with Universal Pictures distributing.
