X has begun displaying a notification to users confirming their identity with a blue checkmark, mostly seen on X Premium customers. They will no longer be able to hide this blue checkmark soon.
Previously, X had a feature allowing X Premium subscribers to hide the blue verification checkmark, as some did not want their followers to know they were paying a monthly fee, which enabled them to receive ad revenue.
X did not provide a reason for this change but it is believed to be related to distributing blue checkmarks to accounts with a large number of followers who are X Premium customers for free. Many users received the blue checkmark without having to pay, causing confusion. Hence, the decision to make it mandatory to display it for all accounts.

TLDR: X is removing the option to hide the verification blue checkmark for all users, possibly due to issues with free distribution of the checkmark to X Premium subscribers.
