Developers at Shift Up have announced through the X platform that their game, Stellar Blade, will not have any content censorship in any region, not even in the Japanese version.
In the past, games in different regions and platforms had varying levels of content censorship. For example, the Japanese version of Heavy Rain censored the shower scenes of characters, while in later-era Graphic Novel games on PlayStation, censorship involved obscuring sources of unknown light and some games altered character costumes to appear more vivid.
Stellar Blade is an action game with elements of Soul-like gameplay akin to Sekiro, emphasizing defense and counterattacks against a futuristic post-apocalyptic world similar to Nier Automata. The game took over 5 years to develop and will be released exclusively on PlayStation 5 on April 26.
Director Kim Hyung-tae revealed that the game drew primary inspiration from the cyberpunk manga Gunnm by Yukito Kishiro, which was adapted into the movie Alita: Battle Angel in 2019. Yoko Taro, director of Nier Automata, praised Stellar Blade, stating it surpasses NieR: Automata in brilliance.
TLDR: Stellar Blade by Shift Up will have no content censorship globally, including in the Japanese version. The game draws inspiration from the manga Gunnm and is set to release on PlayStation 5.
