Eclipsing Google Search: OpenAI’s Unveiling of AI-Powered Search Engine

According to Reuters, rumors have been circulating that OpenAI is gearing up to launch its own Search Engine next Monday, May 13th.

There has been speculation for some time now that OpenAI has been quietly developing a Search Engine to compete with Google Search and other startups like Perplexity AI, founded by former OpenAI employees.

It is expected that OpenAI’s Search service will be an extension of ChatGPT, allowing ChatGPT to pull information from the internet and various data sources (isn’t this essentially Bing then?).

In 2023, OpenAI attempted to create ChatGPT Plugins to integrate with external services, but it didn’t gain much popularity and was discontinued in April 2024 to focus solely on GPT Store.

On the other hand, Google itself offers a service called Search Generative Experience (SGE) as an extension of Google Search, utilizing Gemini AI to provide summarized answers to users.

TLDR: OpenAI is rumored to be launching its own Search Engine to compete with Google Search, while Google offers its Search Generative Experience service with Gemini AI integration.
