Market Share of AMD’s x86 CPUs Surges in Desktops and Servers, Setting a Historical Record

Mercury Research, a market research company, recently released a report on the x86 CPU market (including servers, desktops, laptops) in the first quarter of 2024. According to their findings, AMD’s market share hit a new high of 20.6%, marking a significant milestone.

AMD’s market share in Q1 2024 was driven by the adoption of their Epyc 4th Gen CPUs, Ryzen 8000 series for laptops, and Ryzen 8000 series for desktops. This led to an overall increase in market share for AMD.

The desktop CPU market saw the highest growth for AMD, rising from 19.8% in Q4 2023 to 23.9% in Q1 2024, a 4.1 point increase in just one quarter. The server market also experienced growth, moving from 23.1% to 23.6% during the same period. However, AMD’s market share in the laptop segment decreased from 20.3% to 19.3%, possibly due to increased competition from Intel’s Core Ultra laptops.
