Concise iPad Air Review: Oversized Display Makes Pro Unnecessary, Air Moniker No Longer Lightweight, M1 Equipped Version Still Unappealing.

The new iPad Air with the M2 chip will start delivering to customers in America starting from May 15th. Media outlets have received units for testing and reviews are now out.

In essence, the iPad Air has two sub-models with screen sizes of 11 inches and 13 inches. It features the M2 chip with a Liquid Retina display, backlit LED, not the OLED like the iPad Pro.

According to Nathan Ingraham from Engadget, the 13-inch iPad Air is a great option for those looking for a large screen without the high price of the Pro model. The M2 chip offers a noticeable increase in speed compared to the older Air model but if currently using the M1, the difference may not be significant. The screen remains unchanged from the previous model, lacking support for high refresh rates and ProMotion, which is a downside. The front camera has been shifted horizontally to enhance video calling experience.

Scott Stein from CNET suggests that the term “Air” in iPad Air no longer holds much meaning as it is thinner and lighter than the iPad Pro. Choosing the iPad Air is a viable option for those needing Pro-level specs without the high price tag of the Pro model. However, it’s important to be cautious when opting for higher storage options with cellular capability as the price can rival that of the iPad Pro models.

Andrew Cunningham from ArsTechnica notes that while the iPad Air uses the older M2 chip, not as new as M3 or M4, it is sufficient for general iPad usage. Apple has managed to surpass this distinction starting from the M1 models.

Lastly, David Pierce from The Verge discusses the pricing of the iPad Air, labeling it as a mid-range option with specs that are neither the best nor the worst. Buyers should consider their intended use for the iPad as it may not be suitable for everyone. For a more budget-friendly option, the 10th Gen iPad starting at 13,900 baht could be a compelling choice for most users, while the iPad Air can be seen as a discounted older iPad Pro model.

TLDR: The new iPad Air with the M2 chip offers a choice between 11-inch and 13-inch models, providing an alternative to the iPad Pro at a more affordable price point. Despite some limitations, it is a worthwhile option for those seeking a balance between performance and cost in a tablet.
