New Vision Unveiled by Facebook: Targeting Younger Audience, Curating Content from Non-Followers

Meta has unveiled its new vision for the Facebook platform in the next 20 years, focusing on the user group transitioning from teens to young adults.

While Facebook remains a service for users of all ages, the company is gearing up for the next era of social media users by adapting the app to better suit the needs of young adults. The company’s concept is that this group will undergo significant life transitions, such as moving out of their parents’ homes, going to college, starting their first job, renting their first apartment, and more. Features like Marketplace, Dating, Reels, and Groups are aimed at helping users discover new things nearby, making them essential for this user group.

A major change on Facebook is the content recommendation system, which aims to compete with TikTok. The recent major overhaul has allowed Facebook to rapidly learn from vast amounts of data. The system is currently being tested on Facebook Reels and will expand to other sections like the Feed and Videos next year. The company’s goal is to have the best content recommendation system in the world by 2026.

Another new addition is the Video Player, showcasing vertical full-screen videos with the ability to scrub through the video and a new private sharing feature. This feature allows users to send videos privately to friends or acquaintances either through the Facebook platform or other platforms like WhatsApp.

On the creator side, Meta introduces Professional Mode, which allows profiles to monetize without the need for a dedicated Page. Within the first 18 months of launch, the feature has garnered 100 million users and has adjusted payment methods to align with content popularity.

TLDR: Meta announces a new vision for Facebook focusing on young adults, introducing features like improved content recommendations, a new Video Player, and Professional Mode for creators to monetize their profiles.
