Apple has announced the release of tvOS 18, featuring new additions primarily focused on Home and Audio categories. However, there are standout features such as InSight and the integration of Machine Learning to adjust audio for conversation and subtitles.
The InSight feature provides information about actors, characters, and songs in movies and shows on Apple TV+ in real-time on the screen. Users can select actors to view their profiles and past works, or add songs playing in a scene to their Apple Music playlist. Additionally, viewers can see InSight information on their iPhone when using it as a remote control for Apple TV.
The conversation adjustment feature uses Machine Learning to enhance spoken audio clarity on Apple TV 4K even amidst scenes with music, sound effects, or background noise. It supports HomePod, TV speakers, speakers connected via HDMI, AirPods, and other Bluetooth devices, as well as on iPhone and iPad.
The subtitles feature has been improved for more convenient usage and can be displayed automatically in suitable situations, like when the sound is muted or when users rewind to watch again.
It supports a 21:9 aspect ratio for projectors and showcases new Screen Savers with portrait photographs, TV shows, movies, or even dynamic animations.
The tvOS 18 Beta is now available for members of the Developer Program, with the Beta version for the general public set to be released next month and the final version to be updated within this year.
TLDR: Apple introduces tvOS 18 with features like InSight for real-time information on actors and songs, Machine Learning for audio adjustment, improved subtitles, and new Screen Savers. Beta available now for developers, general public next month, final version this year.
