Apple has unveiled the new macOS operating system for Mac this year, still in the theme named National Park. This year’s version is Sequoia, which is a national park in Tulare County, California.
macOS Sequoia introduces several new capabilities, starting with the Continuity feature that seamlessly connects with other devices. In Sequoia, users can now do iPhone Mirroring, allowing them to control their iPhone through macOS by accessing the screen, using apps, interacting with notifications, and even dragging and dropping content from Mac to iPhone, all through the mouse and keyboard of the Mac. This maintains user privacy, even in Standby mode, showing only the clock and other pertinent information.
Safari in Sequoia adds a new feature called Highlights, which enables users to search for key information on websites, such as location coordinates when viewing hotel websites, summarize important content when in Reader mode, and call up full-screen video mode when encountering video content on websites.
Other announced updates include:
– Enhanced support for popular games on macOS, such as Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and RESIDENT EVIL 7 biohazard.
– Game Porting Toolkit 2, a tool for developers to quickly port games to macOS.
– Easier window management by easily snapping windows to the edge.
– Presenter Preview, showing a preview before sharing during video calls.
– New app Passwords for managing passwords across various services.
Of course, macOS Sequoia also supports a plethora of Apple Intelligence features, but it requires a Mac with at least an M1 chip.
macOS Sequoia is available for developer testing starting today, with the public beta coming next month. General user updates will be released by the end of the year.
TLDR: Apple introduces macOS Sequoia with enhanced Continuity features, Safari Highlights, game support, window management improvements, Presenter Preview, and Passwords app. macOS Sequoia also supports Apple Intelligence features and is available for developer testing now.
