BioWare has unveiled Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the fourth installment in the Dragon Age series, which takes place 10 years after the events of Inquisition (2014 vs 2024).
Dragon Age: The Veilguard continues the story from the end of Inquisition, focusing on the elf Solas, a former companion in Inquisition who now seeks to destroy the Veil barrier separating the physical world of Thedas from the spiritual realm of the Fade. This unleashes demons from the Fade into Thedas.
BioWare showcased over 20 minutes of gameplay, giving us a glimpse of the opening sequence set in the city of Minrathous on the brink of destruction. The protagonist, named Rook, can be fully customized in terms of gender, race, and class (Warrior, Mage, Rogue). They must team up with familiar characters like Varric and Harding, along with the ice mage Neve Gallus, to stop Solas’ destructive plans.
The party consists of a total of 7 characters (including the player as the 8th, but only 3 can engage in combat at a time) with unique classes. The title “The Veilguard” refers to the backstory of all party members, each with their own diverse backgrounds, coming together to save Thedas.
The gameplay format of The Veilguard remains an action RPG like its predecessors, with players controlling only the main character. A new addition is the ability wheel system, where players can input commands to pause the combat and strategically plan their next moves.
The game is set to release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in the late fall of 2024.
TLDR: BioWare introduces Dragon Age: The Veilguard, set 10 years after Inquisition, focusing on stopping Solas from destroying the barrier between Thedas and the Fade. With customizable characters and new gameplay mechanics, the game promises a thrilling RPG experience for players on multiple platforms.
