Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) has reported the results of collaborative testing with several institutions on developing a new method for transmitting data through commercial optical fiber at a groundbreaking speed of 402 Tb/s. This test data was presented at the 2024 Optical Fiber Communication Conference in San Diego.
The transmission distance for this data is estimated to be 50 kilometers, utilizing 6 different signal amplifiers across a bandwidth of 37 THz to achieve the impressive data transmission rate of 402 Tb/s. Not only does this set a new speed record, but it also expands the bandwidth for data transmission.
This presentation highlights the direction for improving current optical fiber networks, showing the potential for further expanding bandwidth capacity and enhancing signal amplification through network upgrades.
