Åsa Bredin, the head of Mojang Studios, the developers behind the Minecraft series, in an interview with Bloomberg, revealed that the studio’s new strategy will seek new sources of income beyond their core gaming business.
Minecraft is set to have a live-action movie produced by Warner Bros. premiering in April 2025 and an animated series with Netflix, showcasing examples of this new strategy. In addition to movies and series, the studio is also looking to expand into merchandise, education, and streaming content. Revenue from Minecraft merchandise has doubled in the past two years.
Bredin mentioned that Minecraft has a massive player base (over 100 million monthly players), but for those who don’t play the game, there are other ways to be a part of the Minecraft universe.
TLDR: Mojang Studios, creators of Minecraft, are exploring new revenue streams through movies, series, merchandise, and educational content, in addition to their core gaming business.
