IDC Market Research Company released an overview of the PC market in the second quarter of 2024, delivering a total of 64.9 million units, marking a 3.0% growth from the same quarter in the previous year. This aligns with Canalys, another market research company that previously reported similar findings.
Of particular interest is IDC’s observation that the global PC market is experiencing positive growth overall, with the exception of China, which is experiencing a slight decline. Excluding China, the overall PC market is projected to grow by over 5%.
Ryan Reith, IDC’s Vice President of Research, highlights the strong momentum in PC market growth, particularly in the continuous quarter-over-quarter growth trend. This growth is attributed to increasing demand for AI PCs and the shift towards major device upgrades to Windows 11, a key factor because the majority of sales are still within the Non-AI PC segment.
In terms of market share, IDC’s report mirrors that of Canalys, with Lenovo, HP, and Dell securing the top three spots, while Apple sits at the fourth position with a remarkable growth of 20.8%. Acer takes the fifth spot, showcasing a difference from Canalys’ rankings.
