Nintendo Switch has become Nintendo’s longest-lasting gaming console so far (from the day it was released to the next generation console being released), surpassing the iconic Famicom’s record of 2,686 days (approximately 7 years and 3 months) by a significant margin.
The Nintendo Switch was released on March 3, 2017, and up to this day, there has been no new model to replace it, solidly putting it ahead of the Famicom. If we roughly estimate that Nintendo’s next console will be released on March 1, 2025, it means the Switch will have a lifespan of 2,920 days (about 8 years).
Ranked third in Nintendo’s line of long-lasting gaming consoles is the Color TV-Game, the company’s first console (1977-1983), which outlasted the Wii by a small margin. On the other end of the spectrum, the shortest-lived console is the Wii U.
