Amid the tumultuous landscape of indie game distribution, Humble Games, a subsidiary of Humble Bundle, has announced a “restructuring” of the company amidst reports of laying off all 36 employees. The current owner of Humble Bundle is IGN Entertainment, a part of the Ziff Davis media conglomerate, a titan in the US media industry (acquiring Humble in 2017).
Established in 2017, Humble Games has been known for distributing a myriad of indie games, with their latest release being Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus. In a statement, Humble Games acknowledged the challenging state of indie game distribution, leading to the necessity of a new business structure that unfortunately resulted in employee layoffs.
It is important to note that the restructuring on the side of Humble Games does not impact the digital storefront side of Humble Bundle in any way.
