Encountering Incompatibility: 2013 Edition Xbox One Unupdateable Without Long-Term Firmware Updates.

A recent report from Digital Foundry on the DF Direct Weekly show on YouTube revealed that users of the original Xbox One model released in 2013 posted on the gaming forum NeoGAF that they were unable to download the latest firmware.

Upon further investigation, Digital Foundry attempted to update 3 Xbox One units, with 2 using firmware from 2017 and one from 2018. Unfortunately, all 3 units were unable to update to the latest firmware, whether through direct download or using a USB flash drive.

As a result of this issue, the affected Xbox One model cannot go online to play games or access other digital content that requires online verification. Performing a Factory Reset would render the Xbox One unusable, as the latest firmware cannot be downloaded during the setup process.

This problem seems to be specific to the original Xbox One model that has not been updated for a long time. Xbox One S and Xbox One X models do not encounter this issue. Digital Foundry has reported this problem to Microsoft, and it is expected that Microsoft will address and resolve this issue.

TLDR: Users of the original Xbox One model are facing difficulties in updating to the latest firmware, rendering the console unable to go online or access digital content. Microsoft is expected to address this issue.
