Renowned Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman has unveiled information about two new hardware models set to debut at Meta Connect 2024 on September 25-26.
The prototype AR glasses, codenamed Orion, are lightweight and designed for all-day wear. These glasses have been a longstanding aspiration for Meta to create a wearable device with an overlay display similar to Google Glass, distinct from the camera-embedded Ray-Ban glasses currently in the market.
The new Oculus Quest model, potentially named Quest 3S, is rumored to be a budget-friendly option priced between $300-400, undercutting the $500 price tag of the existing Quest 3. Some variants may exclude the controller from the package (to be purchased separately) in an effort to lower the overall price of the headset.
Earlier speculations suggested that Meta has abandoned the development of the high-end glasses model, codenamed La Jolla, meant to rival the Apple Vision Pro due to the exorbitant hardware costs involved.
