Facebook Ceases Provision of Facebook News Content Service in Europe, Yet Continues Availability of News Consumption via Regular Feed.

Facebook has announced the discontinuation of its Facebook News feature in three European countries: the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. This move comes after its launch in Europe in 2021.

Facebook News is a separate tab in the News Feed that is specifically designed for reading news articles. It was initially introduced in the United States in 2019 and expanded to certain countries, excluding Thailand. However, Facebook has gradually withdrawn from news content, citing a lack of interest from users, particularly in political news. As a result, the algorithm has been modified to prioritize posts from friends.

The Facebook News tab will be removed in early December. Users in these countries can still access news articles through the regular News Feed, albeit with algorithmic adjustments (let’s face it, we’re all battling algorithms). This is unlike the situation in Canada, where all news articles are blocked.

TLDR: Facebook is shutting down its Facebook News feature in the UK, France, and Germany due to a lack of user interest. Users can still access news articles through the regular News Feed.
