The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) is asserting the rights of IT workforce in India by demanding media and the Indian government to address the behavior of Infosys, a company that accepts employee applications but then mandates unpaid training continuously.
NITES states that Infosys has been practicing this behavior since 2022, where they recruit and instruct applicants to undergo online training before informing them that they must train in-office without receiving a salary thereafter. Those who refuse are considered to have withdrawn their applications.
Salil Parekh, the CEO of Infosys, responded by saying that although there have been changes in hiring plans, the company ultimately hires these individuals. NITES insists that if there are any delays, employees should be compensated for the time lost.
The IT job market in India has notably contracted in the past year, with a 5% decline in software hiring and a 9% decrease in AI/ML roles.
