AnandTech Hardware Website Shuts Down After 27 Years of Operation

AnandTech, a prominent hardware website, has announced its closure after a 27-year run since its establishment in 1997 by Anand Lal Shimpi, an American of Indian descent. At the mere age of 15, he launched the website to review motherboards and various computer components. Working with AnandTech until 2014, Shimpi then ventured into hardware with Apple, stepping away from the media industry. Ryan Smith, the current editor-in-chief, has been with the website since then and has made the decision to shut it down.

Currently owned by Future PLC, a UK-based media company that also owns other online platforms like Tom’s Hardware, Android Central, PC Gamer, and TechRadar, the reason behind AnandTech’s closure remains undisclosed. However, Future PLC has committed to maintaining all website content online and keeping the forums active for continued user engagement. Tom’s Hardware, the sister site under the same ownership, will persist in delivering the latest news and reviews from the PC realm.

In a recent trend, GameInformer, a gaming magazine, also decided to cease operations after a 33-year stint and remove all content from the internet.

TLDR: AnandTech, a longstanding hardware website, has chosen to close its doors after nearly three decades in operation. Despite this, the website’s content will remain accessible online, and the forums will stay active for community interaction. Sister site Tom’s Hardware will continue to provide up-to-date news and reviews in the PC industry.
