Evan Spiegel, the CEO of Snap, the owner of the Snapchat platform, has recently shared an email with employees regarding future plans. He discussed a new way of displaying advertisements due to the main format of Snapchat, such as vertical video ads, becoming a trend followed by other platforms. The company is therefore seeking new ways to differentiate itself for advertisers.
The new ad format called Sponsored Snaps comes in the form of branded text messages that are sent directly to users’ inboxes, inserted within conversations with other contacts. These messages will not trigger notifications and users can choose not to open them. Advertisers will not be able to see the messages in the chat, and chat content will not be used for targeted advertising.
Snapchat is also planning to introduce another ad format called Promoted Places, which has long been a sought-after feature by businesses. This feature will work on Snap Maps, allowing users to discover nearby locations. Business owners or brands can promote specific locations to stand out.
