Intel has announced its production plan for the Intel 18A and Intel 20A chip manufacturing processes. A key focus is the progress of the Arrow Lake CPU for desktops, originally intended to use Intel 20A. However, Intel has stated that production will be outsourced to an unspecified company, likely TSMC. Intel will handle the packaging of the final chips.
The decision was made due to the successful results of the Intel 18A manufacturing process and its alignment with the 2025 production timeline. This led the company to reallocate engineering resources from 20A to 18A, resulting in a cost reduction of approximately $500 million. Further information was shared by Dave Zinsser at a Citi seminar, highlighting advancements in technologies such as the RibbonFet Gate-All-Around transistor design and PowerVia power delivery, all to be further developed in the 18A process.
