Revamping Ubisoft’s Online Racing Games: The Transition of The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest to Offline Play

Ubisoft has announced plans to update the online racing games The Crew 2 (released in 2018) and The Crew Motorfest (set to release in 2023) to include offline gameplay modes. This strategic move aims to maintain the longevity of the games, allowing players to continue enjoying them for years to come.

The direction taken by Ubisoft is intriguing, as many current online games become unplayable once their servers are shut down due to lack of popularity. There are only a few games willing to adjust and allow offline gameplay, such as Dragon Quest X.

Ubisoft itself faced criticism for shutting down the servers of the original The Crew game (released in 2014) in early 2024, rendering the game unplayable. The effort to make the upcoming installment playable for an extended period is commendable.

TLDR: Ubisoft is updating The Crew series to include offline gameplay modes to ensure players can enjoy the games for a long time, despite server shutdowns common in online games.
