Unveiling Sony’s Newest Innovation: The PS5 Pro with Cutting-Edge Advanced Ray Tracing Technology Unmatched by AMD’s Other GPUs.

Mark Cerny, the head of PlayStation’s system architecture, revealed in an interview with CNET that the Advanced Ray Tracing features of the PS5 Pro are unmatched by any current AMD GPU. Sony has been pushing AMD to develop these features on their own.

According to hardware website Wccftech, the CPU of the PS5 Pro is based on the RDNA 3 architecture, while the Ray Tracing features are borrowed from the upcoming RDNA 4 architecture set to launch next year. These features include the Double Ray Tracing Intersect Engine, RT Instance Node Transform, 64B RT Node, and Ray Tracing Tri-Pair Optimization.

Historically, AMD Radeon GPUs have lagged behind NVIDIA GeForce in terms of Ray Tracing features. However, AMD’s shift in focus and the development of these features, starting with the PS5 Pro’s CPU, will undoubtedly intensify the competition in this area.

TLDR: Mark Cerny discusses the unprecedented Advanced Ray Tracing features of the PS5 Pro, sourced from AMD’s upcoming RDNA 4 architecture, potentially challenging NVIDIA GeForce in this realm.
