Enhancing AI Message Display Techniques on Facebook and IG: A Meta Update

Meta has once again updated its guidelines for displaying content labels generated by AI on Facebook and Instagram. The label “AI info” will now only be shown on content created by AI or with verifiable AI-generated metadata, or if users manually indicate that it was AI-generated. In cases where content has been edited or modified by AI tools, the AI info label will be moved to the post’s menu, requiring users to click for more details.

Previously, Meta’s labeling system worked in two ways: users manually indicated AI creation or Meta’s system evaluated and detected it. However, complaints arose when certain content types were not solely AI-generated but had been edited using AI-powered tools, sometimes just minimally altering images, thus not warranting the AI label.

Meta has stated that these changes aim to better differentiate AI-aided content types, reflecting clearer distinctions in AI usage. Previously, Meta changed the label from “Made with AI” to “AI info” to reduce confusion.

TLDR: Meta has updated its guidelines for labeling AI-generated content on Facebook and Instagram, now reserving the “AI info” label for content strictly created by AI or with verifiable AI-generated metadata. Users must specify when content is AI-generated, and minor AI edits will shift the AI info label to the post menu for further clarification.
