Meta Prepares to Utilize Publicly Available Posts in the United Kingdom to Train AI

Meta has announced its plan to use public user data in the United Kingdom to train artificial intelligence after discussing with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). The ICO considers this usage as legitimate interests.

Users in the UK will soon receive notifications that Meta will be using their data starting next week, along with a link to a form to opt out of data usage. Posts from users under 18 years old will always be excluded.

Meta takes caution in using data in the European region, engaging in discussions with data protection authorities in the region. Earlier this year, the Irish Data Protection Commissioner requested Meta to pause using posts from European citizens.

TLDR: Meta will use public user data in the UK for AI training, with users notified and given the option to opt out. The company is cautious in its data usage in Europe, following discussions with data protection authorities.
