Microsoft has announced the addition of a Copilot button on the Copilot+ PC keyboard (behind the scenes of how the button works) that may elicit mixed reactions from users. However, Microsoft has recently relaxed its stance and allowed users to customize the Copilot button to something else.
This feature has been introduced in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.4225, currently in Beta Channel status. Users can navigate to Settings > Personalization > Text input to modify the Copilot button to launch other apps instead. However, there is a condition that the app must be a new-generation app using the new MSIX installation package and has been signed. Microsoft reasons that this is to maintain the security and privacy of user data.
In the event that our keyboard does not come with a Copilot button, adjusting this setting will have no effect whatsoever.
TLDR: Microsoft’s Copilot button on the Copilot+ PC keyboard can now be customized to launch different apps for improved user experience.
