The WordPress Creator Versus WP Engine: Unveiling the Cancer of the WordPress World

Matt Mullenweg, the founder of WordPress, has taken on WP Engine, a hosting company specializing in WordPress, in a public battle. He made it clear that “WP Engine is not WordPress”. This declaration was made at the WordCamp conference and reiterated in a blog post on wordpress.org. Matt pointed out that WP Engine earns hundreds of millions of dollars from hosting WordPress, yet they hardly contribute code back to WordPress. Furthermore, WP Engine’s system is a modified version of WordPress with intentionally reduced capabilities, such as eliminating the feature revision for articles to reduce server data storage.

According to Matt, WP Engine’s services are not genuine WordPress but rather a watered-down version that still resembles WordPress. He went as far as calling WP Engine the “cancer of the WordPress world” and advised WP Engine customers to contact support to have the revision feature restored (limited to a maximum of 3 revisions).

TLDR: Matt Mullenweg confronts WP Engine, accusing them of not being true WordPress and likening them to a cancer on the WordPress ecosystem. He urges WP Engine customers to request the restoration of the revision feature.
