Intel has started selling its Gaudi 3 AI accelerator chips, which were introduced back in April, packaged with Xeon 6 P-core CPUs designed to work together. Gaudi 3 is positioned to compete against NVIDIA’s H100, boasting 64 Tensor cores, 8 matrix multiplication engines (MME), 128GB of HBM2e memory, and 24 Ethernet ports at 200 Gb each.
A key highlight of Gaudi 3 is its superior performance compared to the H100, with approximately 50% more efficiency at a significantly lower price point of $125,000 per card (or $580,000 for a set of 8 chips). It remains to be seen how Intel’s strategy with Gaudi 3 will impact its ability to attract customers away from the H100.
TLDR: Intel introduces Gaudi 3 AI accelerator chips with Xeon CPUs to rival NVIDIA H100, offering better performance at a lower cost.
