The development team of Arch Linux has announced that they have received sponsorship from Valve to support the development of two sub-projects, which are the build service infrastructure and the secure signing enclave. Valve will financially support these developers as freelancers.
Arc Linux mentioned that Valve’s support is invaluable as volunteers can immediately start developing these projects rather than just doing it in their spare time. These projects will also help solve many long-term issues of Arch Linux.
Valve uses Arch Linux as the core for developing SteamOS version 3.x, which is used for the portable gaming device Steam Deck. The previous version of SteamOS (used for Steam Machine era) was developed on Debian.
Arch Linux is a rolling release Linux distribution, meaning there are no numbered version releases, but software packages will always be updated to the latest, similar to the stable version of the original project.
