At the beginning of this year, OpenAI introduced a model that generates videos from text called Sora, known for its eclectic sounds. However, after several months, Sora’s status remains restricted to internal testing and is not yet available for general use.
The latest development sees Tim Brooks, a key researcher at Sora (credited on the OpenAI website), announcing his move to work with Google DeepMind. He mentioned his intention to focus on video creation based on his expertise, including the development of a world simulator.
Undoubtedly, Tim Brooks’ transition to Google DeepMind has been well received by prominent figures in the Google team, such as Jeff Dean, co-founder of Google Brain, and Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind.
On Google’s end, they have their own video generation model called Veo, unveiled at Google I/O in May 2024, which has recently been integrated with YouTube.
Bonus: In March, the CEO of OpenAI stated that the AI Text-to-Video tool, Sora, would be available for public use within the year. As of now, Sora remains inaccessible, but the CEO, Mira Murati, has already left OpenAI.
Too long, didn’t read:
OpenAI’s video generation model, Sora, is still in testing, but key researcher Tim Brooks has moved to Google DeepMind to work on video creation and world simulators. Google’s Veo model is now live on YouTube. CEO Mira Murati has left OpenAI before the release of Sora.
