Gogolook, the developer of the Whoscall app, has released a report on the State of Scams in Thailand for the year 2567 in collaboration with the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA) and ScamAdviser.
The aim of this report is to uncover the evolving patterns of scams and their impact on the Thai population, based on a survey of over 9,360 individuals from various demographics over the past year.
Interesting findings from the report reveal that 28% of respondents have fallen victim to scams in the past 12 months, with an increase in scam encounters compared to the previous year. Additionally, 89% face scams at least once a month.
Furthermore, the report shows that 39% of individuals lose money to scammers within an hour of being contacted, with only 2% recovering their assets fully. The average financial loss from being scammed is approximately $1,106 USD or around 36,000 Thai Baht per person.
Phone calls and text messages remain the top methods used by scammers, followed by online advertisements, messaging apps, and social media posts. The top five channels utilized by scammers for fraudulent activities are Facebook (50%), Line (43%), Messenger (39%), TikTok (25%), and Gmail (20%).
