OpenAI Establishes Singapore Office to Meet AI Demand in Southeast Asia

OpenAI has announced the expansion of its operations with new branches in several cities worldwide. In Asia, a new branch will be established in Singapore, adding to the existing offices in Tokyo, Japan. The other branches mentioned in this announcement include New York, Seattle, Paris, and Brussels.

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, highlighted Singapore’s rich history in technology leadership and artificial intelligence. The Singapore office is expected to launch by 2024, serving as a key hub for the burgeoning demand for AI expertise in the Southeast Asian region. Initial job openings are estimated at 5-10 positions, covering technical roles, public policy positions, and communications roles.

Oliver Jay, the Director of International Operations at OpenAI, will head the Singapore office and other locations. Jay, previously in charge of revenue at Asana and a board member at Grab, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

Additionally, OpenAI has announced a collaboration with the AI Singapore project, focusing on the development and application of artificial intelligence. A grant of $1 million will be provided to support the development of resources and open datasets, meeting the growing demand for AI expertise in the Southeast Asian region.
