A new wave of remasters has arrived from Aspyr Media, the mastermind behind game remasters. Introducing Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered, the second trilogy of Tomb Raider games to receive the remaster treatment following the unveiling of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered a year ago.
The trilogy includes Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation (PS1, 1999), Tomb Raider Chronicles (PS1, 2000), and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness (PS2, 2003). The Angel of Darkness, the sixth installment, marked the series’ debut on PS2 and the final chapter developed by Core Design before Eidos Interactive handed over the reins to Crystal Dynamics due to its lackluster performance. Crystal Dynamics has since been at the helm, starting with Tomb Raider: Legend in 2006, after Eidos’ acquisition in 2009 and Core Design’s closure in 2010.
The remastered versions offer the flexibility to switch between original and enhanced graphics, choosing control schemes from the original version or modern Tomb Raider era, displaying boss health bars, implementing reward systems, and a photo mode similar to contemporary games.
Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is set to release on February 14, 2025 (which coincides with Lara Croft’s birthday) across all platforms including Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Epic, GOG).
