Google Releases Android 15 Update for Pixel, Adds Night Sight to Instagram App

Google has begun rolling out the Android 15 update to a stable version for Pixel phones, following the release of the stable version in the AOSP project since September. This update is part of the October Pixel Drop, which includes features beyond the Android 15 core.

One standout feature of Android 15 is the Theft Detection Lock, which prevents unauthorized access to the device. If the device is stolen, Android 15 will add an identity verification process. Even if the thief attempts to remove the SIM or disable Find My Device, they will be prompted for a password.

Another notable feature is Private Space, a hidden folder for storing important apps that requires identity verification to access. Additionally, Foldable devices and tablets will now feature app pairing in the taskbar, allowing users to easily split the screen between two apps.

The Low Light Boost in the camera app enhances performance in low-light conditions, and other apps can now access camera controls in more detail, such as adjusting flash intensity. Users can also send messages via satellite in areas without cellular or Wi-Fi signals.

To improve security, Android 15 has updated the login process with Passkey, enabling one-tap login.

Pixel-exclusive features include Audio Magic Eraser, which now separates and adjusts various sounds (e.g., voice, wind, music) independently, available on Pixel 8 and above. The camera and video quality have been enhanced for underwater shots when the device is placed in a waterproof case.

Astrophotography mode has been integrated into Night Sight mode, allowing for extended exposure times of up to 4 minutes. Night Sight for Instagram now lets users capture low-light photos directly from the Instagram app without switching between apps.

The Pixel Weather app has been expanded to older Pixel models from Pixel 6 onwards.

For Gemini users, all models of Pixel Buds now support voice commands with Gemini, previously only available on Pixel Buds Pro 2. Gemini Live is now accessible to all Pixel users at no additional cost. The Pixel Screenshots app now supports commands for Gemini to find specific images, such as asking it to locate a saved screenshot of a particular brand of sneakers.

TLDR: Google has released the Android 15 update for Pixel phones, introducing new features for both general users and Pixel owners, enhancing security, camera capabilities, and overall user experience. Gemini users can also benefit from new voice command features and access to Gemini Live at no extra charge.
