Huawei has officially launched HarmonyOS Next version 5.0, marking a significant milestone as the first iteration of HarmonyOS that no longer supports running Android apps.
The appearance of HarmonyOS Next 5.0 remains largely unchanged from previous versions, still serving as an operating system for mobile phones and tablets. New additions include dynamic wallpaper, customizable lockscreen based on weather conditions, a security feature called Star Shield, improved performance, and battery life optimization.
When it comes to apps, users are required to use Huawei’s own app system called Ark, boasting a library of up to 15,000 apps according to Huawei.
Currently, HarmonyOS Next 5.0 is in the Beta stage and open for testing on select hardware models such as Huawei Pura 70, MatePad Pro 11″. A stable update is set to be released in 2025.
