Enhanced Security Measures: Google Messages Introduces Scam Detection Feature to Notify Users of Suspicious Links in Thai SMS.

Google has announced added features to the Google Messages app to enhance scam detection and improve message security.

With enhanced scam detection, the app will now analyze message content on-device to identify fake messages, starting with package delivery and job-seeking messages. If a message is suspected to be a scam, it will be promptly moved to the spam folder. This feature is currently in beta testing.

Users will be alerted that links in messages may be harmful, a feature now available in India, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.

The app will now block messages sent from outside the country, a feature currently being tested in Singapore.

Sensitive Content Warnings will notify users of potentially explicit images in RCS messages sent to unfamiliar recipients, blurring the image until they choose to view it again – similar to other messaging apps like Instagram DM.

To confirm the identity of the message recipient, users can verify the public key. This feature will be available on Android 9 and newer devices next year.

TLDR: Google Messages has introduced features such as enhanced scam detection, link safety alerts, cross-border message blocking, sensitive content warnings, and public key verification to improve message security and prevent scams.
