The Indonesian government has issued a ban on the sale of iPhone 16 models in the country, as well as newly released products like the Apple Watch Series 10. The Ministry of Industry in Indonesia cited Apple’s failure to meet its promised investment of $109 million, with only approximately $95 million invested so far.
However, Indonesia has stated that it will allow the products to be sold in the country once Apple fulfills the initial investment requirement as previously notified. This includes contributions to the Apple Academy research and development.
There may be questions about the impact on individuals who purchased iPhone 16 models from overseas, particularly for tourists. Indonesia clarified that tourists can bring up to two personally used iPhone 16 devices into the country, but selling them onwards would violate the law. This permission also extends to iPhone 16 units shipped internationally, as they were not sold within the country.
Apple addressed this issue two weeks ago, confirming its investment commitment in Indonesia and stating that it will quickly introduce iPhone 16 and other new products for sale in the country.
