Microsoft Reveals Official Investment Amount in OpenAI for the First Time and Begins Recognizing Losses on their Books

Microsoft has officially disclosed the amount invested in OpenAI for the first time in its 10-Q report submitted to the SEC after announcing its quarterly results. The report states that Microsoft invested in OpenAI and pledged a total of $13 billion. However, Microsoft accounted for this investment using the Equity Method in the last quarter, resulting in a loss of $683 million in the company’s overall profit and loss statement. CFO Amy Hood also mentioned that this number is expected to increase to around $1.5 billion in the current quarter, with a significant portion coming from OpenAI due to increased investment in the company. Previously, there were reports of increasing conflicting relationships between Microsoft and OpenAI. However, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella indicated that both companies continue to collaborate, and this collaboration adds value to both entities.
