Investigation Initiated by EU against Corning Over Alleged Anti-Competitive Behavior in Smartphones’ Display Glass Market.

The European Commission (EC) has announced the initiation of an investigation into Corning, suspecting anti-competitive behavior in the electronic device display glass market.

According to the information gathered during the investigation, Corning has agreements with smartphone manufacturers to exclusively provide Alkali-Aluminosilicate glass orders, either all or nearly all of their supply, with additional discounts offered by the company. Moreover, smartphone manufacturers must inform Corning if they receive offers from other glass manufacturers and are prohibited from accepting those offers unless Corning cannot match the price.

Additionally, the EC stated that Corning has similar agreements with raw glass material suppliers to receive all orders from the company with additional incentives.

The EC has informed Corning and the competition oversight committee of initiating an investigation into this matter without specifying a timeframe.
