Gemini launches innovative mobile ordering feature akin to Google Assistant capabilities

Google’s strategy is crystal clear: they aim to utilize Gemini as an AI assistant instead of Google Assistant. Although Gemini can converse more fluidly in human language, it still lacks many of the commanding features of Assistant, making it unable to fully replace it.

Recently, 9to5google reported that Gemini has introduced a Utilities Extension feature that allows for controlling mobile devices in a similar way to what Assistant can do. This includes setting alarms, timers, opening apps, websites, scheduling timed photos, adjusting volume, screen brightness, and pausing/playing music or videos, among others.

This feature is currently exclusive to Gemini on Android devices, requiring Gemini to be set as the primary personal assistant instead of Assistant and activated in the Gemini Extension page beforehand. Google states that they are gradually rolling it out to users, so it may not be immediately visible to everyone.

TLDR: Google intends to utilize Gemini as an AI assistant, introducing a Utilities Extension feature for controlling mobile devices similarly to Google Assistant. This feature is currently only available on Android devices and requires setup in the Gemini Extension page.
